EARTH AWAKE
Gold in the Dark
A therapeutic approach weaving dream work, shadow work and somatics
So often, we (myself included) want to run away from the pain. From the fear or the heartbreak of what is happening in the world. From the darkness in humanity and in our own being. Yet if we can connect to our inherent presence of embodied Loving Awareness, we can meet what is from a courageous standpoint. Allowing the sensations and feelings to move through us - they have the potential to transform and also to transform us.
I have been exploring shadow work, dream work and somatics in some form for about the past 2 decades on my personal journey, studies, and with various communities and teachers. It is only now that I am beginning to discover the power of weaving them together.
My mother is a dream researcher, studying Jungian psychology as a young woman and passing down this fascination to me. My own healing journey through the shadow, as well as an unrelenting curiosity about emotions, relationship dynamics, and bridging the seen and unseen, calls me into sharing this work with others.
It is not about digging for the dark, endless process or needing to fix ourselves. It is about being with what is already surfacing – in our bodies, in our beings, in our lives, in our relationships, in our world.
Our rage.
Our grief.
Our joy.
Our shame.
Our fear.
Our ecstasy.
Our numbness.
Our uncertainty.
Stepping with loving presence into those places – and discovering the gold there.
What Is shadow work, dream work and somatics?
Shadow Work
I actually prefer the term “Shadow Play”, as even in the heavy and dark places we can find lightness if we bring our curiosity and presence. This is where we meet and integrate disowned parts of self. Parts we have made wrong. Parts we have made wrong in others. Parts we worship in others but can’t see in ourselves. Because of this, it relates to conflict transformation and relationship dynamics, rewiring core beliefs about ourselves, and reclaiming our power - and stepping into our communities and the world with the gifts of that power.
Dream Work
Again, we can use the term “Dream Play” here. We can play with dream material in so many ways - through sculpture, painting, dance, analyzing, active imagining, dream councils…the possibilities are endless. My favorite approach is working with dreams through body, because it is our body who dreams, connecting us in an embodied way with the kernels of wisdom nestled there. Dreams give us an access point to both the subconscious and superconscious realms, offering insights through what is beyond our conscious recognition.
*Note: It is not a prerequisite to remember your dreams.
Somatics
The Soma, the Body - the vessel of our human experience. The body is our interface with the world around us, impacting how we perceive reality and ourselves. Yet how much to we actually pause to listen to this intelligence, without an agenda? Especially when what we “hear” is an uncomfortable physical symptom or illness? Yet the body has innate self-healing abilities, part of a holistic system including our emotions, thoughts and spirit. Recent advances in the understanding of trauma and nervous system functioning contribute to our ability to hear the fine-tuned delicacy of this language.
Through the body, through our dreams, through the dark, we can begin to see with new eyes.
Who is it for?
Gold in the Dark is for anyone who is interested in meeting themselves. This can include navigating challenges such as conflict, trauma, addiction, compulsions, harmful relationship dynamics, physical symptoms, illness or self-limiting beliefs. It can be about reclaiming your power and getting clarity on next steps. Yet it can also be simply to develop human awareness and to follow your curiosity.
The approach is client-led, meaning that at the core is the premise that your body and being hold the wisdom for the unfolding and way forward. I am simply here to support you in accessing and remembering that wisdom.
